ABSTRACT

Though India has adopted the path of secularism, there is no Uniform Civil Code in India for people of all religious groups, majority and minority. Despite several attempts made by the law makers, legal experts and government in the past, it could not be implemented in India due to protests by minority religious groups. In this paper, an analysis of the historical background of the Code in India and the pros and cons of its implementation has been made for promotion of the secularist ideologies enshrined in our Constitution.
