ABSTRACT
The article is a comprehensive explanation of the legal system that accords the lives of innocent people the utmost importance. Thus, if reasonable doubt exists, the offender is acquitted. Reasonable doubt must be fair, and it always arises from the pieces of evidence.
The purpose of a law is always to punish the guilty, as evidenced by the historic decisions of both the High Court and the Supreme Court. The Author also shows clearly how the presumption of innocence serves as an exception to the general rule in the United States. The author has also clarified the likelihood of conviction based on the complainant’s testimony. The article examines numerous case laws in order to address every facet of reasonable doubt.
