Free legal aid is the provision of free legal services in civil and criminal matters for those poor and underestimated individuals who can’t bear the cost of the services of a lawyer for the lead of a case or a legal proceeding in any Court, Tribunal or Authority. These services are administered by Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 and headed by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

NALSA (National Legal Services Authority), it was formed on 9th November 1995. Its main aim is to serve free legal services to eligible candidates discussed under section 12 of the act, and manage Lok adalats for quick and speedy resolving of the cases and reduce the burden of the judiciary.
